From October 2022 to March 2023, most homes in England, Scotland and Wales will get a £400 non-repayable discount on their electricity bills. This is known as the Energy Bills Support Scheme, and it will be delivered in six monthly instalments. The UK Government has confirmed that homes in Northern Ireland will get a £400 discount through the Northern Ireland Energy Bills Support Scheme. Further details are still to be announced.
Am I eligible for the Energy Bill Support Scheme discount? Yes, pre-payment customers qualify for the discount. Here’s how you can access it.

01 Verify that your energy supplier has your correct contact information.
Your energy provider should have contacted you about how you will receive your discount before October 1, 2022.

If you are unsure whether your supplier has your correct contact information, contact them and double-check. This is critical because they will not be able to tell you how to get the discount otherwise.

02 Obtain the necessary information from your supplier. If your supplier has your correct information, they should have already informed you of how you will receive your discount, which will be in the form of vouchers or a credit. If you receive discount coupons, they will be sent to you via text message, email, or postal mail. Alternatively, you may have been told that you will be automatically credited when you top up at your usual top-up location. If your supplier hasn’t already contacted you about how you’ll receive your discount, contact them right away.

03 Receive your discount

The discount should be available in the first week of each month.

The amount will be £66 in October and November 2022, increasing to £67 each month from December to March 2023.

Look for vouchers from your supplier or, if you’re receiving an automatic credit, top up your prepayment metre as usual.

If you receive vouchers, you must use them at a top-up location, such as a Post Office branch or a PayPoint store. Your supplier will inform you of where you can redeem your vouchers.
